The media has made it clear that Tiger Woods is a cheater. He made a public apology on February 19, 2010 for his "irresponsible and selfish" behavior. The apology was almost fourteen minutes and it was his first public appearance since his crash on Thanksgiving day outside of his home in Orlando, Florida. Throughout the video, he said how he and Elin are trying to get through his behavior and how he had let down so many people, including his family, his wife, friends, his staff, parents, and children who looked up to him. Parents would look up to Tiger as a role model for their children and he feels that he owes them a special apology and wanted to tell them that he was truely sorry. He asks people "to find room in their hearts to one day believe in him again and he owes it to his family to become a better person." While I read the news, it says that he blames money and fame which made it easier for him to cheat.
Some members of the media were invited to listen to his public apology but they were not able to ask any questions. People felt "what was the reason of attending the public apology if they were not able to ask any questions." Pat O' Brien said that Tiger should have done his public apology on youtube or something. While he started talking a little about his family, he raised his voice and instructed the media to leave his family alone. Woods said that it is not easy to admit he needs help but he is getting therapy to help him with his "issues". Everything that is happening within his marriage and with his family will stay private and he has no intentions of anybody else finding out his personal matter. As for the rumors of his wife hitting him, he had made it clear that she did not hit him that night, and that they have never had a domestic dispute. Woods agent says that the issues that the golfer is dealing with is private but he feels that his fans deserve to hear an explanation. The day for Tiger to return to golf has not been set yet for 2010 but for now, he will not be playing anytime soon.
I feel that while all the media has payed way to much attention to Tiger Woods and how he has cheated. If he was not the one of the top payed athletes, I feel that there would not have been so much media attention on him. Because he is Tiger Woods, there will be many more articles and talk about him and his life that he is now trying to "fix".

I understand that he is a celebrity, but I think it is so sad that this is what the news is reporting on. I was watching Good Morning America on both Saturday and Sunday morning and both days they talked about Tiger’s apology. I feel that there is far more important news to be reporting on than his life. While he is a role model for many people, especially young people, I feel that we need to give him and his family privacy and spend the news time reporting on world issues and not Tiger’s infidelity issues.
ReplyDeleteI watched his appology on television and I felt like it was very inconcere. Later that night I was watching Entertainment News where they had a professional body language person saying that if he would have been sincere his eyebrows would have wrinkled more and hey probably would have had tears in his eyes and what not. So therefore they proved that he was not sincere and he was not sorry for his actions.
ReplyDeleteTiger may be sincere, but his emotions sure didn't show it. I watched this public apology and feel truly that he shouldn't have gone with a scripted speech and delivered it from his heart. Elin is a beautiful lady and is way more gorgeous then any of the women he cheated on her with. Why would any man in there right mind cheat on a gorgeous, hot blonde model from Sweden?
ReplyDeleteThe media has gone way overboard with the Tiger Woods case. It is a personal matter; it should be kept that way. I understand he is one of the biggest golf icons out there, but he still has a right to privacy. The speech on the other hand, did seem rehearsed and not as heartfelt as it could have been. On the radio Monday morning the hosts were talking about this issue. They say that the reason for men to cheat when they are already famous and have beyond beautiful wives, is because they feel they need to keep moving up. Some cheat because they can while others cheat because they need more. More women under their belt, more publicity and so on, they want to keep adding to their lives. If this is the case with Woods then yes, he needs help. If he is just cheating because he can, then his wife and children are probably better off without him. It is hard to determine at this time what his intentions really were, but I hope he gets help and the matter is resolved.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the media has gotten too involved with the subject. I do agree with getting the story and headlines out, but to keep pursuing the story and putting his family through even more than they are already working to fix might be too much. I have no idea why he would think of even starting or going through with such a scandel when he had a wife and kids. I think that being so famous and wealthy sometimes boosts confidence and makes you do things you shouldn't.
ReplyDeleteNewsflash: Tiger Woods is not the first man to cheat! I simply did not understand why the media approaches it as this 'new-found sin'. Realistically, this issue is between him and his family, the rest of the world need not become involved. And what of his mistresses? These women knew they were becoming involved with a married man--apparently they were just fine with that. Regardless of whether or not Woods' apology was sincere (since that sincerity has been questioned), it is time to let the issue drop and let the man (and his family) find a way to go forward with life.
ReplyDeleteI personally didn't watch Tiger Wood's apology but I did check out what he said right after class. I had read somewhere that people believed that he needed to apolgize to them, when it really isn't any of their business. This is all between Tiger and his family. He isn't the first athlete to be caught cheating and everyone else has not been caught in the crosshairs for as long as he has been. I also agree that the media has gone over board on reporting what has happened with Tiger and his family isn't any of their business. He apologized people now get over it and move on.
ReplyDeleteTiger Woods did cheat and everyone just has to get over it. Alot of people cheat on there spouses and husbands. The media needs to stop following him and his family around. Give him and his family some privacy. I think Tiger should be able to play in 2010 for sure. His wife should not go back to Tiger. Yes if Tiger Woods wasn't a great athlete there wouldn't be this much media about him cheating. I can't believe it took him this long to give an apology. He should of gave one right after it happen because everyone knew he did cheat on his wife.
ReplyDeleteI also did my blog about Tiger and I believe that America is a nation who loves its contraversy and is always interested in seeing a person with high statis, make a mistake. In this case, the mistake was an affair. Ok, affairs arn't uncommon umong the media, but Tigers was a little over the top I agree. I am the type of person that does not really get to worked up over the lives of celebrities and what not, I am a sports guy who loves to see an underdog beat a power house. I this case now, Tiger is some what an underdog,(not skill wise of course) but I would love to see him just beat the crap out of his competition like it was nothing. The worst thing I would hate to see is his production level of golf decline. FIghting through adversity is the most inspirational thing now days
ReplyDeleteIf anyone truly believes that Tiger's appology was sincere, then I feel sorry for them. I started to laugh the first time I saw it on ESPN. He stands up there and reads off of a sheet that was probubly written by some professional, because he sounds like a robot reading it the whole time. The end of his speach is the only time he looks up. He says that he is truly sorry, but really he knows he shouldn't have to appologize to us. His wife is only one who needs an appology, and don't worry she will probubly get it, when he buys her something super expensive.
