We have all heard of the movie Alice in Wonderland right? Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are the centers of the movie and they have collaborated with one another to make this movie magical for its viewers. Recently, the 3-D picture sets a record opening weekend at $116.3 million dollars, beating that of the controversial movie "Avatar". There was an estimated amount that was said for the opening weekend which was $65-$75 million but the film surely went over that. Said by MSNBC, "Disney and 20th Century Fox competed over the available 3-D ready screens; screens outfitted for 3-D are rapidly rising, but still amount to fewer than 4,000 in the United States and Canada." Before "Alice in Wonderland" came out, the 3-D screens were still hooked on the movie "Avatar" which still at its 12th week of release earned $7.7 million over this past weekend, bringing its total up to $720.2 million dollars.
There were mixed reviews about this movie, there was 53% who would recommend the movie while the other 47% would not. Also said by MSNBC, that because the movie was in 3-D it caught more viewers attention to watch the classic Lewis Carroll movie. For the movies "Avatar" and "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs", 3-D helped their movies to sky rocket and make a bigger gross average and show in the box office.
Having "Alice" playing across on 188 IMAX screens in North America, the movie brought in $11.9 million domestically while the previous record was $9.5 by "Avatar". An IMAX chairman said "The momentum of 3-D is so massive right now, and that they were ready for a new movie." I beleive that once a movie gets turned into 3-D it will show in the box office because it seems more out of this world and cool to watch. Viewers will be more excited to watch the movies that they either once watched while they were younger or a brand new movie that they have never seen.

When I first saw the preview for "Alice in Wonderland," I didn't think it would be a movie that I would really feel like going and seeing. I felt this exact same way about "Avatar" and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" as well. However, having heard fellow friends and peers talk highly about all three movies, I think I need to see them. I also never thought that any movie would top Avatar but here it is. I think the fact that these are 3D movies help them a lot, but all in the same, I think movies only have a chance of getting better and better in qaulity, storyline, etc. from here on out.
ReplyDeleteI really think that 3-D movies are going to start taking over our average movies in theatres. They seem to be more intense and make you feel as if you are right there in the movie. Watching movies in 3-D can also make them more suspenseful and action fille with objects flying at you and such. I have not yet seen Alice in Wonderland but I have seen Avatar. I really didn't think much of it because I usually prefur girly movies, tear jerkers, and comedies. I have never really been into computer animated or made up characters "Avatar". I would have to say that the movie "Avatar" was among one of the best movies I saw this year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kalai's comment that said that 3-D movies are taking over the regular movies, which I don't like because I also like the comedies and tear jerkers which would be weird in 3-D. When the previews for Alice in Wonderland came out I didn't know if I wanted to see it, I am a fan of Johnny Depp but I don't know if I could sit through that kind of movie, because it looked strange. I think that while 3-D movies are making movies more interesting for younger children. In the long run it will earn more money for movie theaters.
ReplyDeleteI agree wiht Kalai and Laura that 3-D is goign to take over, i watch G4 alot which is a gamers tv channel and thier even talking about experimenting with 3-D tv shows. Personally i don't like 3-D movies they give me a huge headache. Alice in wonderland looks like a trippy movie, granted i do like Johnny Depp as an actor but this movie looks to animated and unrealistic in my eyes to even care about it.
ReplyDeleteWow I loved ALice in wonder land and I cant wait to watch it now. Johnny Deep is such a great actor, not to metion, one hell of a guy. 3-D is awesome. I watched a couple movies in 3-D and I think many people will enjoy this movie in 3-D. I heard it got bad reviews though. Not matter what I hear, I know I will be taking my girl friend to watch this one.
ReplyDeleteUpon first thinking of another "Alice in Wonderland" I was worried that it would ruin the orginal, but hearing from others that it is a sequal makes it much more appealing! Plus with the combination of Tim Burton directing and Johnny Depp, Helen Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and Mia Wasikowska as the lead actor and actresses it is clear to see this would be a steller movie. 3-D is most likely going to take over movie theaters, but in my opinion I will still love the classics. I am excited to be going to the movie to experience all its magical wonder it holds.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying in this blog. When you say this movie is going to be in 3-D it appeals to a lot of peoples interest. Even if you tell me this movie is going to be in 3-D I am going to be more likely to watch it. I don't want to see "Alice in Wonderland", even if it is in 3-D. Just becuase it is in 3-D doesn't mean I have to watch it. I don't think that the fact that it is in 3-D makes me wanna watch it. It makes it more interesting but doesn't make me wanna watch it anymore. The next movies in 3-D are "How to Train your Dragon" and "Clash of the Titans." I will definatley go watch these two movies but it's not because that they are in 3-D, it's because they look like good movies that im going to watch them not becuase the fact that they are in 3-D. I agree that 3-D makes it more interesting but I don't believe that people just go to watch it becuase it is in 3-D.
